Origin Description

The Australian Kelpie, whose origins may be traced back to the late 19th century, is a living testimony to the resourcefulness and innovation of dog breeding. A variety of working dog breeds, including the Scottish Collie, Dingo, and Border Collie, were deliberately bred with Australian sheepdogs during the breed's birth. The exceptional Australian Kelpie, a breed of herding dog, was born from this deliberate crossing.

The Kelpie, a legendary water sprite with deep roots in Celtic mythology and a reputation for remarkable agility and shape-shifting abilities is the origin of the breed's name.

Description

The extraordinary herding skills of the Australian Kelpie have brought this breed a great reputation, along with its legendary intellect and limitless energy. Generally speaking, these dogs have a powerful body, a deep chest, and a strong neck; they are medium-sized and proportional. They have pricked or semi-pricked ears and somewhat wide heads, with attentive eyes that show a sharp intellect.

A characteristic and weather-resistant coat may be seen on Australian Kelpies. It can be any colour from black and chocolate to red and blue, with tan or cream patterns added to the mix. They are able to withstand a wide range of conditions thanks in part to their thick, straight, medium-length coat.
