Extreme cold may be dangerous for dogs because of their temperature sensitivity. Most canines experience discomfort when the temperature goes below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius).
Small, thin-coated, young, aged, and ill dogs should not be left outdoors for long periods, especially when the temperature is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Dogs may suffer life-threatening complications, including hypothermia and frostbite when exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-7 degrees Celsius) or below.
With their thick, double coat serving as insulation and helping them remain warm, Berger Picard dogs are prepared for cold weather. If they have access to shade and water, they can survive in warmer climates as well. Berger Picard dogs thrive well in moderate temperatures, between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. They may need warm gear or access to a heated facility when the temperature goes below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature rises over 75 degrees Fahrenheit, on the other hand, they must have access to a cool, shaded place with enough water.
In severe weather, owners must keep an eye on their Berger Picard's body temperature and demeanour.
Bring them indoors or to a more appropriate setting if they start shivering or panting excessively as a result of the temperature or humidity. In hot weather, your Berger Picard will appreciate some shade, drink, and a break from exercise during the warmest portion of the day.
Brushing their coat often might help eliminate any stray hairs that could cause overheating. Dress them warmly, provide a comfortable place to sleep, and keep them inside when the temperature drops. When the temperature outside dips below freezing, they should be brought inside immediately.
