The Brussels Griffon, the Belgian Griffon, and the Petit Griffon are the three types of Griffon dogs. The Belgian Griffon is easily recognizable by its long, wiry coat and facial fringes.
The Pest Brabancon, on the other hand, has a short,' silky coat. The Brussels Griffin, the first of these breeds to be shown publicly, made its debut in the 1880 Brussels Exhibition.
Intriguing and historically significant, the Brussels Griffon is a breed of toy dog. Although this breed quickly gained popularity among the upper and lower classes, it wasn't until 1883 that a formal appearance standard was set. These dogs originated in Brussels, Belgium, where they were developed to rid stables and workshops of rodents.
Today, however, they are far more often kept as pets. Their small, squared-off heads, wide, expressive eyes, and creased foreheads give them a charming and appealing air of mischief. Both the rough (wiry) and the smooth (silky) coat varieties of Brussels Griffons need frequent care to keep them looking their best.
