Exercise

It is crucial to ensure the physical health, mental stimulation, and general well-being of Colombian sliders (Trachemys callirostris) by providing them with exercise opportunities. Activities that encourage natural behaviours and mobility are still beneficial for these turtles, even if they spend most of their time in water.

Make sure there's enough room for your Colombian slider to swim in its cage. Their normal swimming movements and activities should be unrestricted by the confines of the tank. They may keep their cardiovascular health in check and work out their muscles in this area.

Incorporate climbing and extending basking spaces inside the inclosure as a second point. A dry place with heat lamps or UVB lights is ideal for Colombian sliders. These areas should be conveniently located and spacious enough to allow the turtle to spread its legs when it basks.

The next piece of advice is to set up environments that spark curiosity and movement. An setting that is both visually appealing and physically engaging may be created with the use of rocks, logs, plants, and floating platforms. Physical activity is encouraged by the fact that turtles may climb on or around these things, swim through vegetation, or explore new levels of their environment.

As a fourth piece of advice, try feeding your Colombian slider things that make it behave more like a natural hunter. Scatter food about their environment or conceal it behind items instead of putting it right in front of them. This gets them moving and thinking as they investigate their surroundings in pursuit of food.

Fifthly, provide a safe atmosphere for exercise by supervising and guiding participants outside. Additional exercise opportunities may be provided via supervised outside time in a secure pond or inclosure, provided that weather conditions and safety concerns allow it. Make sure there are no predators in the area and that they can have enough of light and shade to keep themselves warm.

Sixthly, when their activity levels change, make adjustments to their surroundings. The body temperature of Colombian sliders is controlled by external heat sources; this makes them ectothermic. Water temperatures should be between 24 and 29 degrees Celsius (75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit) to promote activity and movement, and basking areas should be heated enough.

The seventh piece of advice is to keep their enrichment interesting and different on a regular basis to keep them from becoming bored. Curiosity and exploration may be piqued by introducing new things, rearranging components of the environment, or modifying feeding techniques.
