Golden Retrievers need modest brushing throughout the year due to their rich, water-resistant coat. It is advised to brush your pet at least twice or thrice weekly, or more often during shedding seasons. Slicker brushes and grooming rakes are great tools for detangling and smoothing out knots in hair.
In most cases, Golden Retrievers will only need a wash when they are obviously unclean or when their odor becomes overpowering. Use a mild dog shampoo and be careful not to overbathe; doing so can remove the coat's protective oils.
Coat Trimming: Golden Retrievers shouldn't need their naturally flowing coats trimmed too often. Keep an eye out for tangled or debris-filled feathering in places like the ears, tail, and legs. You may keep these regions clean by regularly cutting them with grooming scissors or by getting them professionally groomed.
Golden Retrievers, like other dogs, benefit from regular nail cutting. It could be painful and even dangerous to go about with overgrown nails. Be cautious not to cut too near to the quick (the delicate portion inside the nail) while trimming their nails using a dog nail clipper or grinder.
Cleaning the Ears: Since Golden Retrievers often have ear infections, it's crucial to clean and dry their ears regularly. After you've followed the manufacturer's recommendations, use cotton balls or pads and a dog ear cleaner to clean their ears. Never put anything in your pet's ear that might cause harm, and if you see any red flags, make an appointment with your doctor.
During the spring and autumn, when Golden Retrievers lose their undercoats more heavily, you should pay additional care to them. During these times, you may control shedding by brushing more often and using a shedding rake or de-shedding equipment.
