The penang betta is originated from south asia and more commonly find in a flowing jungle streams of Thailand, Sumatra and riau islands. They were discovered in Malaysia, Peninsular, Terengganu, pahand, penang, johor and Singapore. habitat ranges from rice paddies to slow-moving water and flood plains. Bettas catch the environment and develop an ability to breathe air from the atmosphere, so they inhale oxygen from the air using their labyrinth organ.
Betta pugnax is water fish so they prefer to live in warm environments with a temperature range between 71- 81 F (22 to 27 C). They like acidic water, and the pH value is between 6.0 to 7.5. The hardness should be 4-12dH. A filter requires 25% of water in a week as well as a weekly change of water required. manage the level of ammonia, nitrix, and other toxins.
Betta pugnax generally prefers a carnivore’s diet. Their primary diet consists of kelp and red and green algae. They are foodie, eating different types of small invertebrates such as anemones, crustaceans, and sponges. They can eat animal protein-rich and plant-based food. You can offer them pellets occasionally.
A betta has a weak immune system, so they easily catch the disease. Common diseases of the bettas are fin rot, velvet, ich, etc. With the ideal care and maintenance, you can prevent them from diseases.
The biggest threat to Betta is water pollution and industrial development. Human activity destroys their natural habitat which is chemical and refinery plantation or industrial development.
If betta can be kept in unsuitable conditions they suffer from bacterial infection and fungal infections which cause many diseases such as fin rot, and velvet.
