Water

keeping your pug hydrated and healthy

You should never leave your Pug without access to clean, fresh water. Keep water bowls handy all throughout your house, but particularly in high-traffic areas where your Pug hangs out.

Even though pugs aren't known to be very energetic, any kind of exercise might cause them to drink more water than usual. To maintain optimum hydration, your Pug may need extra water if it likes playing, going on walks, or exercising. Prevent dehydration by providing water breaks before, during, and after exercise.

Your Pug's water consumption may vary according on their food. To help keep dogs hydrated all throughout, wet kibble has more moisture than dry kibble. Your Pug may need more water intake if they mostly consume dry food. Your Pug may drink more water if you give it items that are heavy in salt.

When the temperature outside rises, your Pug may drink more water than usual. One way dogs control their core temperature is by panting, which results in dehydration. During the warmer months and after outdoor activities, make sure kids have enough of water to stay cool and hydrated.

Keep an eye on how much water your Pug is drinking. All day long, you can see out how much water they've consumed by checking their dish. Noticing a drastic change in their drinking habits, such an increase in thirst or a reduction in water consumption, should prompt a conversation with your vet about any underlying health concerns.

The pug's flat face and small snout make it a brachycephalic breed. Having this physical trait might make it harder to breathe, particularly when the weather is hot and muggy. It is very important to make sure kids have lots of water to drink, especially in hot weather, so they can stay cool and hydrated.
