Smooth Fox Terriers have a moderate tolerance for temperature and are generally comfortable in the indoor conditions preferred by humans. However, they are not well-suited for extreme hot or cold climates due to their physical characteristics and coat type.
Smooth Fox Terriers have a short and dense coat that provides minimal insulation against cold weather. They have limited protection from harsh winter conditions and are more susceptible to the cold compared to breeds with thicker or double coats.
In colder climates, it is essential to provide them with proper shelter, including a warm and insulated sleeping area, and consider using dog sweaters or jackets to help keep them comfortable during outdoor activities in chilly weather.
Similarly, their short coat offers little protection against excessive heat and sun exposure. Smooth Fox Terriers can struggle to regulate their body temperature in hot and humid conditions.
It is important to provide them with access to shade, plenty of fresh water, and avoid exercising them during the hottest parts of the day to prevent overheating. If the temperature becomes extremely hot, it's advisable to keep them indoors in a cool and well-ventilated environment.
