A Yorkie-Poo's coat may be straight, wavy, or curly, among other variations. Their low-shedding coats make them a great choice for allergy sufferers. Particularly for wavy or curly coats, regular brushing helps keep them from matting and tangling.
Prevent mats and tangles by brushing your Yorkie-Poo's coat many times weekly. The texture of the coat will dictate the brush that is most suitable for the job. A slicker brush or comb with large teeth might be useful for wavy or curly coats. A soft-bristle brush might work for coats that are already straight.
Bathe your Yorkie-Poo as required, but at least every two to four weeks. If you don't want to dry out your dog's hair and skin, use a mild dog shampoo. Rinse the coat well to remove any remaining shampoo.
Inspect your dog's ears for discomfort, wax accumulation, or infections on a regular basis. Use a cotton swab and an ear cleaner designed for dogs to clean their ears, but never put anything in their ear canal. Notify your vet immediately if you see any problems.
Keep your Yorkie-Poo's nails from becoming too long by trimming them on a regular basis. In addition to being unsightly, long nails may make walking a real pain. To avoid severing the quick (a blood artery), use nail clippers designed for dogs.
Taking care of your Yorkie-Poo's teeth is essential to their general well-being. Toothpaste and a toothbrush designed for dogs should be used many times weekly to clean their teeth. Another option for preventing plaque accumulation is to use dental chews or toys.
